Don’t delay medical care and screenings Gary Fulbright, CEO/Executive Director While the COVID-19 pandemic was at its peak, it was important to stay home. You might have delayed routine doctor visits and screenings. It’s important to catch up on any preventive health services you might have missed. According to Epic Health Research Network, the number of cancer screenings for cervical, colon and breast cancers has recently begun to rise, but has not yet reached previously expected levels across the U.S. Delayed cancer screenings can result in deadly cancers going undetected or cases that are diagnosed at a later stage with a poorer prognosis. If you have questions or need to schedule your screening appointment, talk to your primary care provider or call 417-328-6010 . In addition to scheduling your annual exams and screenings, it’s important to eat well to keep your immune system strong. Read the article on pages 6 and 7 for the best ways to add healthy nutrients to your diet. For those of us who are over the age of 40, you know all too well the aches and pains of aging. Troy Morrison, D.O., with CMH Orthopedic & Spine Center, discusses common middle-age orthopedic conditions on pages 12 and 13. During the COVID-19 pandemic, some CMH staff members were temporarily assigned to help other departments within our organization. I am thankful that our co-workers provided exceptional care to our patients and residents while making adjustments, stepping into new roles, volunteering to come in early or stay late, and supporting one another. Read on page 15 about how our athletic trainers from CMH Sports Medicine Center worked in our long-term care facilities this summer. We are welcoming several new medical providers to the CMH family. On page 16, read about the new providers for family medicine, pain management, podiatry, orthopedics and hospitalist staff.
