Babb and Louise Wimberly CMH honors retiring CEO Citizens Memorial Hospital and Citizens Memorial Health Care Foundation boards of directors hosted two retirement receptions—one for CMH employees, volunteers and physicians and the other for the public—Jan. 4, 2020, for Donald J. Babb, CEO/Executive Director of CMH. Babb’s retirement marks more than 50 years in health care and 39 years at CMH. During the public reception, several dignitaries talked about Babb and his exceptional career, including Chris Warwick, Bolivar Mayor; Missouri State Rep. Mike Stephens; Herb Kuhn, president and CEO of the Missouri Hospital Association; Nikki Strong, executive director of the Missouri Health Care Association; Missouri State Senator Sandy Crawford; U.S. Senator Roy Blunt; and Missouri Governor Mike Parson. Blunt shared that the flag flown over the U.S. Capitol on Jan. 4 was in Babb’s honor, and Eric Turner, president of Southwest Baptist University, announced at the reception a $10,000 annual scholarship called the Don and Carrie Babb Nursing Scholarship for SBU nursing students on the Bolivar campus. Gov. Parson shared that Babb’s greatest legacy was the people’s lives that he affected and that the people who come through the doors at CMH will have better health, be better citizens, have better lives and more opportunities to live longer. Babb officially retired Jan. 31. Gary Fulbright, former chief financial officer, succeeded Babb as CEO/executive director.
