Citizens Memorial Hospital | Vitality | Winter 2017
2 VITALITY Winter 2017 Thriving in our community Thirty-five years ago, Citizens Memorial Hospital (CMH) opened its doors. More than 5,000 people stood in line during the grand opening celebration to tour the facility and learn about the new services and programs offered in Bolivar. There were only a few rural hospitals being established at that time, and many people told me we just wouldn’t make it. CMH did make it! In fact, we are growing our services, programs, staff and facilities every year. More than 2,000 CMH and CMH Foundation employees and 150 physicians and mid-level medical providers provide care for patients and residents in eight counties. One of those new services is Butterfield Pharmacy, a new retail pharmacy conveniently located near the hospital and open to the public (read more on page 4). CMH is also building a new Lake Stockton Healthcare Facility and making plans for a new addition to the hospital. Be watching for our latest building projects to be showcased in future Vitality magazines. Every year, more than 160,000 men are diagnosed with prostate cancer. On page 12, we feature prostate cancer survivor Robbie Bryant, who was our honored guest at the 14th annual Burgundy Ball in September. You can watch his emotional story on our CMH YouTube channel. A story on page 15 will inspire you to keep moving. WorldWar II veteran Gene Engledow lives in the Butterfield Residential Care Center in Bolivar. This resident still has his pilot’s license and just celebrated his 104th birthday. As you celebrate the holidays with your family and friends, don’t forget to relax, spend time sharing stories, and tell those around you how much they mean to you. Blessings to you and yours during this Christmas season and into the new year! Donald J. Babb CEO/Executive Director FEATURES 12 Faith and fortitude If you’re facing cancer, you’re not alone.
