4 VITALITY Winter 2017 Out of this world! Neurologist cycles 49,804 miles Curtis P. Schreiber, M.D., a board certified neurologist with the CMH Neurology Clinic and the Missouri Memory Center in Bolivar, achieved a milestone on Oct. 9. Cycling on trails, he logged 49,804 miles—the same distance as going around the world twice. Dr. Schreiber placed an odometer on his trail bicycle on July 11, 2005, as part of a decision to take the advice he was giving his patients and exercise for overall better health. “I was telling my patients that they would feel better if they would exercise,” Dr. Schreiber says. “I am not an athlete, but I thought I probably should also be exercising if I am counseling my patients to exercise more.” Dr. Schreiber regularly bikes on the Ozark Greenways Trail and the Galloway Creek Greenway in Springfield, in addition to the Frisco Highline Trail in Bolivar. He bikes around 11 or 12 miles per day most days of the year and even logged miles during a recent summer vacation in London and Paris. Dr. Schreiber emphasizes that you don’t have to spend a lot of money on equipment to get started, and you don’t need to go far or fast—just be consistent. “The important thing is just to get moving and to find something that you really like to do,” he says. “And just do it.” Just do it: Get inspired by viewing Dr. Schreiber’s video at youtu.be/eYQnV_dxaXI . The CMH Auxiliary raises money annually through the hospital gift shop—The Gift Garden—and via monthly special sales. Would you like to join? Call 417-328-6432 .
