Protect your kidneys— know the risks While some kidney diseases are hereditary, the two most common causes of kidney disease are diabetes and high blood pressure. While kidney disease can’t be reversed, you can slow it down with healthy habits: ● Eat well. ● Stay active. ● Quit smoking. ● Limit alcohol. ● Stay hydrated by drinking enough water to help your kidneys remove toxins. ● Treat urinary tract infections promptly. Keep an eye on your blood pressure and kidney function, especially if you have risk factors like diabetes, high blood pressure or a family history of kidney disease. Early detection is key! Kidney disease has no early symptoms, but simple tests can check your kidney health. If you are at risk or have symptoms such as swollen feet, fatigue or changes in urination, talk to your primary care provider for the right tests and treatment.
