Know what’s true and what’s not about COVID-19, the new coronavirus disease. The world has changed So much has happened in the last three months. COVID-19 has moved to the forefront of medical care and the focus of conversation. I’ve been impressed with how our exceptional CMH team has worked to ensure that we are ready to take care of our patients and residents. During the COVID-19 pandemic, CMH set up a hotline ( 417-328‑4300 ) for people to ask coronavirus-related questions, and we opened a drive-thru testing tent for patients with COVID-19 symptoms. We also opened a pop- up lab collection site for people who needed routine lab tests performed but were nervous about potential exposure to the coronavirus disease. In addition, we offered new care options, including virtual visits and telemedicine appointments. You can read more about virtual care on page 3. Early on in the pandemic, we limited visitors to the hospital, clinics and long-term care facilities. Keeping our patients, residents and employees safe is our top priority. Families of residents who live in our long-term care facilities were able to keep in contact with their loved ones through social media posts and video chats. Some families and friends held signs outside residents’ windows to offer love and encouragement. All of our long-term care facilities have Facebook pages so people can keep up with the residents’ activities. We resumed many of the scheduled surgeries and procedures that were postponed due to the COVID-19 virus. It is important that patients continue to seek care for medical conditions, especially those with preexisting or chronic conditions that need follow-up care. Delaying care and treatment may cause complications later and could lead to long-term health problems. Rest assured, we are taking the recommended precautions to ensure the health and safety of our patients, residents, employees and visitors. On behalf of our boards of directors, medical staff, employees and volunteers, thank you for your donations of personal protective equipment, food, coffee, flowers, encouraging notes, phone calls, emails and more. We are grateful for your kindness and generosity. Stay healthy! Gary Fulbright, CEO/Executive Director Gary Fulbright, CEO/Executive Director 2 VITALITY Summer 2020
