Citizens Memorial Hospital | Vitality | Winter 2020

The Citizens Memorial Hospital Addiction Recovery Program is one of 30 recipients in the U.S. and the only Missouri organization to be awarded a $500,000 Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA) grant to help reduce the incidence and impact of neonatal abstinence syndrome in rural communities. Created in 1982, HRSA is a division of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services focused on improving health care to people who are geographically isolated and economically or medically vulnerable. The grant is part of the Rural Communities Opioid Response Program that will be used to reduce neonatal abstinence syndrome rates with prenatal addiction treatment services. Pregnant women, women who may become pregnant, and women at high risk for substance use disorder and opioid use disorder are eligible for treatment services. The grant also extends to support services for family members and caregivers of those struggling with addiction, such as grandparents raising their grandchildren. Additional support services, including peer support and counseling, are also available. The grant consortium includes Bolivar-based Alpha House, House of Hope and the 30th Children’s Circuit Court. The CMH Addiction Recovery Program also received a 12-month $50,000 reentry grant from the Missouri Department of Corrections that will cover all substance use disorders treatment costs for those in probation and parole across southwest and central Missouri. It will cover office visits, lab costs, medication costs and counseling for uninsured individuals in probation and parole. The CMH Addiction Recovery Program is located at CMH Southside Medical Center—Behavioral Health, 1120 S. Springfield Ave., Bolivar, with outreach services in El Dorado Springs; Greenfield; and Hermitage, Missouri.
