GIVING TO CMH FOUNDATION Looking for the perfect gift for a treasured friend or loved one? Consider making a donation this holiday season in their honor to the Citizens Memorial Health Care Foundation. You can honor family, friends or even an organization with a financial gift. HOW CAN I GIVE TOTHE FOUNDATION? There are many options. For instance, you can make a cash donation, either as a one- time gift or on a recurring basis. If you like, these donations may be made in honor or in memory of a loved one. Many people choose to remember a loved one by making a financial gift to the foundation in lieu of flowers. You can also designate how you want your donation to be applied, such as to the Carrie J. Babb Cancer Center, CMH Hospice, Tremain Family Hospitality House, Medical Excellence Scholarship Fund or one of our long-term care facilities to support their special projects for residents. IS MY DONATION TAX-DEDUCTIBLE? Citizens Memorial Health Care Foundation is a 501(c)(3) not-for-profit organization. Donations are tax-deductible to the extent allowed by law. GET YOUR FLU SHOT If there’s one thing you can count on from year to year, it’s another flu season. You don’t want to get the flu—it’s a miserable experience. And you might not have to. Getting a flu vaccine each fall can nearly cut your risk in half. Everyone 6 months and older needs a yearly flu vaccine, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention recommends. Getting vaccinated is even more important if you or someone you live with is at higher risk for complications from the flu. This group includes older adults; pregnant women; young children; and people with chronic health problems, such as asthma, diabetes, heart disease or cancer. People in high-risk groups are more vulnerable to flu complications. They may become very sick if they get the flu. Some may have to go to a hospital. HEALTHY HOLIDAYS Holiday fires involving candles are reported each year. (December is the peak month for candle fires.) Place candles where they can’t be knocked down or blown over. Consider using battery-operated candles instead of real ones Keep candles away from flammable decorations (including trees). Extinguish candles when you leave the room. Use nonflammable candle holders. TO AVOID FIRE home fires Sources: U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission; U.S. Fire Administration BUT REMEMBER: Almost everyone should get a new flu vaccine every year. Even healthy people can get sick and pass it on. And past vaccines won’t protect you because flu viruses always change. It takes two weeks to build immunity to the flu virus. So try to get vaccinated as soon as possible. That way your body will be ready to fight the flu when it gets here.
